Private Individuals and Inventors

Have you got an idea for a new product or invention?

There has never been a better time to be an inventor or innovator.

There are many grants and funding schemes available and the wide ranging reach of the internet has made it far easier for private individuals to showcase their inventions to a wide audience.

There is still the traditional ways of making money from an invention. For example:

  • Licencing your invention to a large company.
  • Selling your invention outright to an existing supplier.
  • Selling your product to a distributor of similar products.
  • Selling your product directly to retailers.

Another option is selling your product directly to the public.
In the past this was, usually, a very expensive and risky route to take.

The development and tooling costs were nothing compared to what you would need to spend on marketing and advertising.

However, today, using the internet, you can reach a huge world-wide audience with very little cash. As long as you have some time, imagination, a good product and are willing to put in some work, then there is nothing to stop your product from becoming a flyaway success.

First and foremost, you need a good, well designed, product that is needed. Needed is the most important word here. Of course you can still sell products that are not needed (Your typical home-wear mail order catalogues are full of them), but you will need slick marketing and advertising to sell enough to make money.

Thinking of a new product or device that is needed is not an easy task. And identifying a need or a problem is usually the hardest part. Successful inventors usually come up with ideas that are related to their work, hobbies or personal circumstances.

The next stage is finding a solution that satisfies the need or solves the problem. This is where we can help. You do not need to have technical, engineering or design knowledge to become an inventor, and you do not need to have a shed where you can tinker for years while perfecting your prototype.

We can start assisting you at any stage, even if you haven’t a clue how to your solution may work. Our initial consultations are completely free and we will give you an honest answer as to the likelihood of fulfilling your requirements.

If you already have a prototype, working or not, or some drawings, sketches or just ideas in your head, then all the better. This will have invariably saved some of the initial work.

Getting investment, a grant or funding is usually important in the early stages (unless you have the means to fund the project yourself). The minimum you will need to get anyone interested in your invention is a working prototype. Just explaining your ideas to an investor won’t cut it.
